Augusta Street Pizza serves “Roman-style pizza, known for its airy crust, crispy edges, and rectangular slices.” After I saw a post about their restaurant online, I decided to stop by and grab an authentic slice with Italian roots. This would be my first meal of the day, and I thought I had room for two slices… Once again, I realized my eyes and thoughts were bigger than my stomach.
This pizza was great. It was exactly as advertised on their website. Not only were the edges crispy, but the crust underneath had a satisfying crunch with each bite. However, the inner crust maintained a soft texture, providing an enjoyable contrast.
Meatball Pizza (with Ricotta)
First off, a ‘shout out’ to the nice lady working the counter. I failed to get her name, but she is worth mentioning for helping make this a pleasant experience. For my first slice, I chose the “Meatball”: tomato sauce, mozzarella, homemade sliced meatballs, and imported pecorino romano cheese. This slice was an excellent starter. All the ingredients melded together perfectly. After my first bite, I intended to eat only half of the slice to leave room for my second choice. In typical Brian fashion, I could not stop myself from finishing the entire slice!
Pesto Base with Eggplant, Artichoke and Roasted Peppers (Limited Offering)
For my second slice, I wanted something on the lighter side to make up for my previous gluttony. The crew made a pesto-based square pie with eggplant, artichokes, and roasted peppers, and I decided to give it a try. This slice reminded me of my love for artichokes. I have not eaten them in a long time, and they were just what I needed. The roasted peppers were also a welcome kick—not too spicy, just enough to tingle your tongue. I wish this was a regular menu item. Excellent slice.
